NEW YORK: Ogilvy PR Worldwide laid off about 3% of its New York office staff this week.
The layoffs, which affected employees in a range of positions, occurred after significant cutbacks by one of the firm's major clients, said Rachel Ufer, SVP of business development and external relations at the agency. She declined to identify the client.
The job cuts were specific to Ogilvy's PR business. However, its Ogilvy & Mather sister agency enacted layoffs in January that impacted nearly 3% of employees at the ad agency's New York and West Coast offices. PR was not impacted by that round of job cuts.
Ogilvy parent company WPP Group reported a 4.6% rise in PR and public affairs revenues on a like-for-like basis in 2011 to $1.4 billion.
