WASHINGTON: Powell Tate has hired Karen Oliver as SVP of public affairs. She began work at the agency today.

Oliver previously worked at Porter Novelli, where she was SVP of consumer marketing. She will report to Pam Jenkins, president of Powell Tate.

Her primary focus at the agency will be work for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as well as the firm's financial services clients, said Jenkins.

Jenkins previously worked with Oliver at Ogilvy PR.

“I got to know her style and personality and how great she was with clients and thought someday I would love to work with her again,” said Jenkins.

Oliver has previously held positions at Ketchum and RTC Direct, working with clients such as the IRS, United Way of America, and Visa USA.

Powell Tate parent Weber Shandwick hired Joe Farren, former VP of global public affairs and GM of Waggener Edstrom Worldwide's Washington office, as EVP of its DC tech practice and tech policy lead last month.
