NEW YORK: Law firm Kirkland & Ellis has hired Rohini Pragasam as director of public relations in New York, a newly created role.
Pragasam was previously head of the investment banking corporate communications team at UBS and head of press and media relations for the Americas at Deutsche Bank.
Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Pragasam ran a consulting practice, Gramercy Consulting Group, working with clients such as investment bank Moelis & Company and the US investment banking division of the Royal Bank of Scotland. She was also MD of corporate communications at Macquarie Group Americas.
In her new role, she will oversee media relations and other communications initiatives supporting Kirkland & Ellis' New York office. She will work closely with Kate Slaasted, associate director of communications and PR, who leads a team of five out of Chicago. Pragasam is the firm's only PR executive in New York.
“It's a great firm with a great brand, and a strong presence and high volume of business in New York,” Pragasam said. “The chance to work with a very successful group of lawyers who are all well known in their practice areas really appealed to me.”
This year Kirkland & Ellis has represented NRG Energy in its merger with GenOn Energy. The firm also aided Bolthouse Farms in the food company's $1.5 billion sale to Campbell Soup Company, and advised Bristol-Myers Squibb in its deal with Amylin Pharmaceuticals, the maker of a diabetes drug.
