NEW YORK: Hill+Knowlton Strategies has promoted Susan Thiele as US healthcare practice leader, effective immediately.
Thiele has been with H+K Strategies for more than two years, working as New York director of healthcare. Some of the H+K clients counseled under her watch include Amgen, Merck, and Otsuka Pharmaceuticals.
Thiele takes over the role of US head of healthcare from Dan McIntyre, who held the responsibilities as part of his global role. He left to become SVP, public affairs at Biogen Idec late last year.
Prior to joining H+K Strategies, Thiele had stints as an SVP at various firms, including Edelman, Ketchum, and Ruder Finn. While in those roles, she worked with large and small brands across a broad range of medical and therapeutic areas, with clients including Pfizer, Wyeth, Eli Lilly, and Novartis.
“In the healthcare industry, real success has become increasingly difficult to attain," Thiele told PRWeek in an email. "Cost constraints, shifting public policies, and a skeptical public and medical community have fundamentally changed the way our industry does business throughout the world.”
She feels her varied experiences have given her the ability to provide strategic communications counsel that will build and maintain corporate reputation and public trust.
During her time at H+K, Thiele has demonstrated great leadership, said Dan Bartlett, US CEO and president of the firm, in a statement. He added he is confident she will take the firm in a direction it wants to go in as it builds its healthcare practice across the US.
