NEW YORK: Edelman has appointed former Mashable COO Adam Hirsch as SVP of emerging media and technology, a newly created role, effective August 6.
Hirsch, who was most recently chief digital officer at non-profit DoSomething.org since February, will report to Kevin King, global practice chair for Edelman Digital. After working at Mashable as COO from September 2007 to early this year, Hirsch will continue his association with the Pete Cashmore-helmed company as an adviser, a position he has held since February.
In his new role, Hirsch will explore and test up-and-coming digital technologies and innovations for Edelman, both internally and externally.
“There is huge opportunity for an organization that already does so much for their clients for themselves to become much more digital across all the teams and to be able and willing to explore more ideas,” he explained.
He will work with all of Edelman's major offices and its nine MDs around the world on client projects, digital templates, and internal training programs.
King said Hirsch's operations background will help Edelman “streamline and improve” its internal processes and thought leadership, as well as its client activities. Edelman Digital has about 600 staffers worldwide.
“We're always talking about new trends, new platforms, new technologies, and having someone with an operations background is really exciting in that he can help us figure out ways to frame those up and execute on behalf of clients,” said King.
Prior to Hirsch's time at Mashable, which he helped grow from a small blog to a well-known technology media company, he worked at NYC Living Realty as director of operations. Before that, he was director of business affairs from 2004 to 2006 at real estate company Peter Ashe.
