Staff members at Catalyst Public Relations, Taylor Strategies, and Prosek Partners, all of which have offices in the Empire State Building, are safe after the shooting that took place there Friday morning.
Nine people were wounded and two killed, including the shooter, according to the Associated Press.
No one was allowed in or out of the building for hours after the shooting, so staffers already in their offices were locked upstairs. Representatives from all three firms told PRWeek that their team members were accounted for.
Details are still emerging about the shooting, which took place around 9 am outside the Empire State Building. Officials are saying the gunman, 53-year-old Jeffery Johnson, shot his manager before randomly opening fire on surrounding citizens. Johnson was recently fired from Shanghai Henson Import and Export Co., according to reports. One 41-year-old victim's name was not disclosed.
Police officers shot and killed the attacker on site, which took place on the south side of West 34th St.
