BROOKLYN, NY: Former PR Newswire manager Jonathan Evans has launched his own PR agency, called Evans Brooklyn, specializing in media relations, content creation, and marketing.
The firm, based in Brooklyn, NY, will target companies in the borough, Evans said. It will also work with national companies to help them reach New York and metro-area audiences, including travel-sector firms and nonprofits, he added.
“There are a lot of start-ups [in Brooklyn] and tons of journalists, but many of the big agencies are across the river,” Evans said.
Evans Brooklyn has signed several clients based in the borough and Los Angeles, Evans said. He is not immediately hiring additional staffers.
Previously, Evans worked in the newswire industry for 15 years. He served as a media relations and content syndication manager at PR Newswire and as a director of content and audience development at Marketwire. He was also the director of business development at startup Noodls, an online aggregator of press releases, corporate news, and company announcements.
Evans said his experience working with the media and managing newswire products lends him an understanding of the “technology behind the news ecosystem.”
“There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes, including technological aspects to take into consideration when pushing out your content. There are things you can do to make that content more discoverable,” Evans said. “We offer traditional public relations services but with a technology fluency.”
