PALO ALTO, CA: Facebook's VP of global communications Joe Lockhart is stepping down from his role after being with the social network since last June.
Lockhart, who reported to Elliot Schrage, the company's VP of global communications, marketing, and public policy, will continue working at the site as a consultant, a Facebook spokeswoman told PRWeek. She added that Facebook has "no interim announcements" at the moment.
Part of the reason Lockhart is leaving the company is because he didn't want to move to California. He is expected to move back to the East Coast for his new consulting position.
During his time at Facebook, Lockhart spent a lot of time in Washington, DC, working alongside VP of global public policy Marne Levine.Lockhart is no stranger to the DC area, having worked inside the White House as the former press secretary to President Bill Clinton from August 1998 to October 2000.
Most recently, Lockhart worked as MD at Glover Park Group, a Washington, DC-based communications firm he cofounded, from June 2001 to July 2011.Caryn Marooney, VP of technical communications at Facebook and cofounder of The OutCast Agency, remains at the company, working directly under Schrage.
