NEW YORK: The Council of Public Relations Firms has elected its 2013 board of directors under chair Dave Senay, president and CEO of Fleishman-Hillard.
Senay will succeed Weber Shandwick president Andy Polansky as chairman and remain in the role through November 2013. Senay was named chair-elect of the council in July, replacing outgoing Porter Novelli CEO Gary Stockman.
The organization elected the board members Thursday morning. They include Ogilvy Public Relations global CEO Chris Graves; Matthew Harrington, global COO at Edelman; Jason Mandell, partner and co-founder of LaunchSquad; Havas PR North America CEO Marian Salzman; C. Renzi Stone, chairman and CEO at Saxum; Hill+Knowlton Strategies global COO Mark Thorne; and Melissa Waggener Zorkin, president and CEO of Waggener Edstrom Worldwide.
“We're very enthusiastic about our new board members. Our board is very important to the operation and forward progress of the Council of PR Firms,” said Kathy Cripps, president of the organization. “We very much appreciate those who are leaving and pleased by those who are coming on. “
The council holds its annual election to pick officers every October.
Senay said in July that the organization will continue to promote the key role PR firms play in social media, as well as diversity and collaboration with other industry groups. He added that the group, which was founded in 1998, will also begin to promote the importance of business ethics once he assumes leadership.
Former chair-elect Stockman stepped down from his role at Porter July 31. He could no longer serve as chair-elect, then chairman in December, because officers must be employed by council-member firms, Cripps said.
