OKLAHOMA CITY: Former Travelers communications leader Shane Boyd has joined Devon Energy as VP of corporate communications, a new position at the company.
Boyd started in the role on Monday. He is responsible for communications, community relations, and creative services, including marketing and advertising. He is based in Oklahoma City and reports to Vince White, SVP of communications and investor relations.
Devon Energy created Boyd's role as its communications department expands “to meet the evolving needs of the business,” he said. The company's communications staff has about 40 employees, he added.
Prior to joining Devon Energy, Boyd was VP of communications and branding at insurance company Travelers for more than nine years. He also served as VP of communications at Dallas-based CPG wholesaler and supermarket retailer Fleming Companies.
“[Devon Energy] is a better fit for the next stage of my career. I loved being at Travelers, but I'm excited about this new opportunity working in a dynamic industry,” Boyd said. “It's a well-regarded company with highly-regarded management, which is one of the reasons I was drawn to the company.”
Devon Energy is an independent energy company involved in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas. Last month, the company said it would merge its US personnel into one group, closing its Houston office and relocating employees and operations from South Texas, East Texas, and Louisiana to its corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City. Devon Energy expects the restructuring to be complete by the first quarter of 2013 and to save $80 million per year as a result.
