NEW YORK: Goldman Sachs has promoted VP of media relations Andrea Raphael to managing director, effective January 1.
Raphael will continue to work in corporate communications at the firm and report to MD David Wells. She declined to comment further on the role.
As a VP in Goldman's corporate communications department, Raphael is responsible for managing media relations for the firm's investment management and merchant banking divisions in the Americas, as well as working on social media efforts. Since joining Goldman in 2000, Raphael has also handled media relations for the prime brokerage business, corporate services and real estate, the urban investment group, equities, and other areas in the securities division.
She was previously an account supervisor at DKC, where she worked with clients including Universal Studios and Cablevision.
Goldman appointed Jake Siewert MD and global head of corporate communications in March, replacing longtime chief spokesperson Lucas van Praag. Raphael and Wells report into Siewert, who leads the firm's corporate communications and global PR efforts.
Last month, Goldman reported a $1.5 billion profit during the third quarter of 2012, compared with a year-earlier loss of $393 million.
