LONDON: Tata Steel has launched a pitch for a public affairs and corporate agency just weeks after the firm announced UK job cuts.
The Indian-owned steel manufacturer is understood to have issued a brief last week that called on agencies to provide an initial response by 13 December.
A spokesman for Tata Steel confirmed initial discussions had taken place with agencies but declined to give further information about the brief.
Tata Steel released restructuring plans in the UK that will lead to the loss of 600 jobs at its plants in South Wales, including Port Talbot.
Smaller sites in Crosskeys and one near Tredegar will close, although 120 jobs will be created at a new hot-strip rolling mill at Llanwern.
Tata Steel is the 12th-largest steel producing firm in the world, headquartered in Mumbai, India. It is a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate Tata Group.
The pitch follows a number of other public affairs pitch processes from Tata, including the appointment of Fishburn Hedges to handle the Jaguar Land Rover lobbying account. In addition, Tata Consultancy Services appointed Hanover following a pitch process in May.
Tata Group works in the chemicals, consumer products, energy, engineering, information systems, materials, and services sectors. It has operations in more than 80 countries.
