This holiday season Missy Farren & Associates has donated resources and more than 100 hours of community service since November 1 to causes very close to their hearts. The agency is working to support Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts throughout New York and New Jersey, to help feed the hungry, and to provide toys to children in need.
Mfa has organized food drives through City Harvest; a toy drive and gift-wrapping parties with Coalition for the Homeless to provide Christmas gifts to children living in shelters; and a coat drive. The firm has also “adopted” a family from Staten Island through the It Takes a Family initiative.
Mfa works with the Coalition for the Homeless each week after work during the holidays on its food distribution trucks, and Mfa donated two complete Thanksgiving dinners to 80 displaced New Yorkers from the Bronx public housing system who hadn't eaten a proper meal in days (members of our agency team were also on-hand to serve the meal). Mfa is also contributing Christmas stockings to 505 underprivileged students from P.S. 197 The Ocean School in Rockaway, a community devastated by the hurricane.
The team has also done clean-ups of parks and farms; worked with the Red Hook Initiative; and donated warm clothes and supplies to those most in need in the Rockaways, Coney Island, and Staten Island. In conjunction with the New Ro Runners running club, staff joined a group that ran to raise more than $2,200 for the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.
While the efforts noted above are centered on the holidays and immediate Sandy relief, Mfa's “Thanks for Giving” initiatives will continue into the New Year. The agency will continue to work with NY's Coalition for the Homeless and with the South Street Seaport (where Mfa started 19 years ago), and it is in touch with various organizations and some beachside communities in New York and New Jersey to see how the company can further help both immediately and in the longer term.
