Unilever has appointed Charlotte Carroll as its communications director for the UK and Ireland as it seeks to promote its green credentials.
A key part of her role will include communications for the firm's sustainable living plan, under which it aims to double the size of its business and halve its environmental impact by 2020.
She will oversee communications to internal and external audiences, such as employees, media, the British government, and NGOs. This includes those relating to Unilever's 11 factories and its research and development base in the UK and Ireland, which make 80% of the products it sells in the UK.
Before her appointment, Carroll worked for the company on a freelance basis as change communications director, overseeing a restructuring program that will see the closure of four plants and the loss of 500 jobs by the end of 2013, as well as the creation of a state-of-the-art “green” manufacturing hub in Port Sunlight.
Prior to this, she held internal communications consultancy roles with the BBC and Siemens. She also worked as communications manager at Unilever from 2001 to 2006.
Carroll replaces Helene Bradley-Ritt, who left to spend more time with her family.
