Daimler's Car2Go group in final stages of agency review

AUSTIN, TX: Car-sharing company car2go, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz-maker Daimler North America, is in the last stages of an RFP for a national PR agency partner.

AUSTIN, TX: Car-sharing company car2go, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz-maker Daimler North America, is in the last stages of an RFP for a national PR agency partner.

Katie Stafford, corporate communications manager at car2go North America, said the company has made its final selections in the review and it expects to make a decision this month.

Enviromedia Social Marketing was the company's AOR before the search process began, added Stafford. She said the agency will continue to work on local market launches, as well as marketing and advertising. Car2go has worked with Enviromedia since summer 2011, supporting the company in all North American cities in which it operates except Austin.

Car2go, which operates Daimler's Smart Fortwo gasoline and electric-powered mini cars, is “really focused on PR,” explained Stafford.

“I'm looking for someone to support PR for more of a national scope because up until now it's been focused on the local markets, but there is also a real opportunity for a national story,” she said.

In December, car2go debuted in Seattle, its eighth city in North America and 18th worldwide.

Earlier this month, car2go competitor and automobile-sharing pioneer Zipcar was acquired by Avis Budget Group for $491 million.

“There's a bigger story to tell with car-sharing, but it's not necessary about one company or one business model,” added Stafford. “It's more so about the way our cities and the way we do things are changing because of the way people are living and the way they can live with technology.”
