Beauty brand L'Oréal has hired the global communications director of InterContinental Hotels Group to head its communications function.

Kari Kerr will join L'Oréal as head of internal and external communications, filling the position vacated by Louise Terry, who was promoted to a new role at L'Oréal-owned beauty retailer The Body Shop.

Terry, who has led communications at the French beauty company since 2007, will also join the executive board of the retailer. Previously, she held senior in-house roles at Coca-Cola.

Tesco group media relations director Tom Curry will take Kerr's position at IHG. Curry previously served as head of media for the UK's Olympic Delivery Authority. He has also worked at Weber Shandwick and the departments of Education and Skills and Trade and industry.

InterContinental picked Hill+Knowlton Strategies as its agency for corporate and brand PR in the Americas after conducting a review of firms within WPP Group last fall. It previously worked with Weber in the Americas for five years.
