NORTHBROOK, IL: Allstate has added oversight of corporate relations to the responsibilities of marketing head Sanjay Gupta.
Starting Friday, Allstate expanded Gupta's role to oversee corporate communications while continuing to lead marketing for the insurance giant, said Laura Strykowski, senior corporate relations manager at the company. He is reporting to chairman, president, and CEO Thomas Wilson and is using the title EVP for marketing, innovation, and corporate relations.
He has succeeded Joan Walker as the company's communications leader. She retired at the end of January.
Gupta joined Allstate last September to manage marketing and consumer-focused initiatives. He was previously CMO of Ally Financial, where he led the Detroit-based institution's 2010 rebranding from GMAC and helped to drive growth of its deposit business.
Prior to that, Gupta was SVP of global consumer and small business marketing at Bank of America, where he worked for seven years. He has also held marketing roles at SciQuest.com and FedEx.
Allstate, the largest publicly traded US home and auto insurer, said last month that Walker would retire from her position as corporate relations EVP in February. She served as Allstate's communications chief and a member of its senior leadership team since joining the company in 2005 from telecommunications carrier Qwest Communications. She was also Allstate's interim CMO from 2007 to 2009.
Last September, Allstate appointed Marci Kaminsky corporate relations SVP, responsible for reputation leadership, corporate advocacy, thought leadership, CEO support, and public affairs. Allstate hired Kaminsky after realigning its organization to build on the public affairs model it put into place years earlier.
