H+K names global leaders of energy, crisis practices

NEW YORK: Hill+Knowlton Strategies has promoted Chris Gidez to global head of its energy practice and Bill Coletti to global crisis co-lead.

NEW YORK: Hill+Knowlton Strategies has promoted Chris Gidez to global head of its energy practice and Bill Coletti to global crisis co-lead.

Gidez and Coletti are both based in the US. Gidez is reporting to Vivian Lines, vice chair and global head of practices. Coletti is reporting to Andrew Laurence and Andy Weltz, co-chairs of the global corporate advisory practice.

Gidez has assumed oversight of the firm's energy practice after serving as co-chair of the global crisis practice since 2011. He replaced Duncan Burns, who held the role since 2011. Burns will leave the agency to join ICANN next month as its global comms leader. Prior to Burns, H+K did not have an energy practice head.

H+K also plans to appoint a global energy co-chair outside the US, the WPP Group agency said in a statement.

Prior to joining H+K in 2004, Gidez spent 14 years leading corporate communications at Texaco and later at ChevronTexaco after the company merged with Chevron in 2001.

As co-lead of global crisis communications, Coletti is working alongside London-based Tim Luckett, who was named co-chair of the practice in January. Coletti will help to grow the agency's crisis and reputation management offerings.

Most recently, Coletti was EVP and GM of H+K's Los Angeles and Irvine operations for the past year. He was previously a senior strategist at Public Strategies, where he worked since 2001. While at the agency, he handled crisis and reputation management assignments for companies such as AT&T and Target.

This week, H+K also promoted several executives in Asia. Rachel Chan was named MD of the Hong Kong office, KW Lam was appointed as deputy MD in Hong Kong, Radhika Shapoorjee became South Asia president, and Sara Gourlay was promoted to COO of H+K India.

The promotions follow a number of executive changes at the agency over the past several months. At the beginning of the year, H+K promoted Sergio Morales, SVP and head of its New York consumer and sports marketing practice, to US consumer and marketing communications practice leader.

Outside the US, H+K named Ye Yu and Ivy Soonthornsima co-presidents in China; John Morgan president and CEO of Asia; Jamie Morse and Chip Ng MD and deputy MD in Singapore, respectively; and Antonio Tamayo president and CEO of Latin America.

Earlier this month, product safety testing and certification company Underwriters Laboratories selected H+K as its global PR AOR following a competitive review.

This story was updated on April 10 to correct the reporting structure of Gidez and Coletti.
