Education company hires former Allstate comms chief

PITTSBURGH: Education Management has hired former Allstate communications leader Joan Walker as EVP of corporate communications.

PITTSBURGH: Education Management has hired former Allstate communications leader Joan Walker as EVP of corporate communications.

Walker will report to Edward West, president and CEO of Education Management.

She was previously EVP of corporate relations at Allstate, where she served as the insurance giant's communications chief and a member of its senior leadership team since 2005. Walker was also its interim CMO from 2007 to 2009. She retired from the company earlier this year.

Prior to joining Allstate, Walker was EVP of marketing and communications for telecommunications carrier Qwest Communications and SVP of global public affairs for Pharmacia. She has also served as a partner at ad firm the Bozell Sawyer Miller Group and in government and educational roles.

Education Management has 110 colleges and universities in the US and Canada, including Argosy University, The Art Institutes, Brown Mackie Colleges, and South University.
