PPR appoints Leopold as head of New York office

NEW YORK: PPR North America, the recently launched PR division of WPP Group advertising network Young & Rubicam, has named former Sharp Electronics PR director Jeff Leopold SVP and head of its New York office.

NEW YORK: PPR North America, the recently launched PR division of WPP Group advertising network Young & Rubicam, has named former Sharp Electronics PR director Jeff Leopold SVP and head of its New York office.

Leopold, who is reporting to president and CEO Fred Hawrysh, is responsible for leading the office and building a culture for staffers. PPR's New York office has a team of 12, but Leopold said the firm is planning to aggressively grow its staff size in the next year.

Last month, Y&R expanded the global footprint of Asia-Pacific-based PPR, opening offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, and New York, which is the North American headquarters of the agency.

In addition to running the office, Leopold will work with current and potential clients, he said. PPR North America is focusing on the consumer technology and corporate sectors. Dell is one of its clients, but Leopold declined to disclose details about the account.

Leopold said he decided to join the firm because it is a “compelling opportunity,” noting it has a start-up mentality with the backing of WPP and Y&R.

Prior to joining PPR, Leopold served as head of PR at Sharp for about a year. He exited his role at the electronics company when it restructured its marketing and communications department last summer, eliminating various roles in the group.

Before Sharp, Leopold was director of corporate marketing at CUnet for two years. He also served as a VP at Coyne PR for about a year.

PPR, which was founded in Australia in 1970, has 180 staffers in the Asia-Pacific region.
