NEW YORK: Digital comics platform comiXology has selected 360 Public Relations as its first AOR following a competitive review.
Three agencies were in the final round of the RFP, said Samantha Saturn, CMO of comiXology. She declined to name the other firms or disclose the account budget. Saturn said the company, which was founded in 2007, decided it was time to bring on a PR agency since it is growing and wants to increase awareness of its products.
“We're trying to build the business globally, and we're looking at a bunch of different aspects of the market today, such as tech, business, and consumer,” she explained. “We really want to take our brand to a broader audience, so we thought it would be a good time to enlist the help of a communications firm to expand our reach.”
Saturn said all three finalists were “stellar,” but the company gave the account to 360 because it was the best fit for the business and what it is trying to accomplish.
For the one-year contract, the firm is tasked with engaging media outlets in the comic book, entertainment, consumer, and technology spaces. Saturn said 360 will also help with event-planning and thought-leadership efforts, such as getting comiXology executives on the right conferences, panels, and speaker bureaus.
Social media is not included in the agency's scope of work. 360 is initially focusing on PR efforts in the US. But as the company expands internationally, Saturn said it will address its strategies in other markets.
In January, comiXology, which recently surpassed 100 million international comic and graphic novel downloads, opened an office in France.
