DES MOINES, IA: MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, a fuel-source producer and transporter, has appointed Kelly Groehler as its first head of communications.
In the role of VP of communications and public affairs, Groehler is reporting to Maureen Sammon, chief administrative officer. Groehler's first day at MidAmerican was Monday.
Groehler, most recently director of communications and public affairs operations at Best Buy, will focus on strategic direction, oversight, and measurement of reputation management. She will also work on strategic communications for the holding company and its subsidiaries, she said.
Groehler held various roles, including director of external affairs and senior manager of corporate PR, during her eight years at Best Buy. In her last 10 months at the retailer, she worked to align the company's communications functions, including internal and external communications, government relations, corporate responsibility, and corporate events.
Prior to Best Buy, Groehler spent nine years at Padilla Speer Beardsley.
At the end of May, MidAmerican Energy, a subsidiary of Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway, agreed to buy NV Energy for $5.6 billion, its largest-ever acquisition.
