Ellen Davis, the top public affairs executive for US federal prosecutors in New York, is joining Sard Verbinnen & Co., the firm that represents a $15 billion hedge fund under investigation by Davis' employer.
Davis, who has spent nearly three years as chief public information officer for the US Attorney's office in the Southern District of New York, will leave her post this month and join Sard Verbinnen in September as a principal.
Sard Verbinnen has handled media relations for SAC Capital for the past decade, including during the ongoing federal investigation into alleged insider trading at the company. Agency MD Jonathan Gasthalter leads the account.
The investigation into SAC Capital has been underway for the past several years. Nine employees, including founder Steven Cohen, have been charged or implicated in insider trading cases brought by prosecutors from the Southern District of New York. Earlier this month, news outlets reported that many of SAC's longtime investors, including the Blackstone Group and Morgan Stanley, were fleeing the hedge fund.
Sard Verbinnen chairman and CEO George Sard told Bloomberg Businessweek that Davis “will not be involved in any SAC-related matters or work with any clients currently involved in SDNY investigations.”
