NEW YORK: Hill+Knowlton Strategies has hired former CBS News correspondent Drew Levinson as SVP in its US media relations practice.
Levinson joined the agency this week and is based in New York. He is reporting to Amy Rosenberg, EVP and US director of media relations at H+K.
In his new role, Levinson is responsible for media strategy, executive media coaching, and crisis management across H+K practices. H+K brought him onboard for his experience as a journalist, and he is not replacing a specific role, an agency spokesperson said.
Levinson was previously a correspondent at CBS News for 15 years, covering national and international events such as the September 11 terrorist attacks, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Hurricane Katrina. Prior to CBS, he was a reporter for WCAU-TV Philadelphia and a reporter and anchor for the NBC News channel in Charlotte, NC.
Levinson left journalism three years ago to launch a consulting and media coaching business, Drew Levinson Media, which worked with C-suite executives on effective media engagement in critical situations. He told PRWeek he is closing the firm and hopes to bring some of his clients to H+K, but none have been confirmed at this stage.
“I am hoping to use my expertise as a former journalist to bring in clients who need the services that I can provide. I know how an interview will be conducted, I understand how the questions are going to be posed, and I know what makes news. For that reason I can help our clients say what they want to say and get their message across clearly in a cluttered media landscape,” Levinson said.
