Sharecare brings on former Apple PR manager Martin

ATLANTA: Former Apple communications executive Jen Martin has joined health and wellness social network Sharecare as its first PR leader.

ATLANTA: Former Apple communications executive Jen Martin has joined health and wellness social network Sharecare as its first PR leader.

Martin started at the company this week as VP of communications, overseeing PR strategy, media relations, and messaging. She is reporting to Nicola Bridges, SVP of content, programming, and video, and is working closely with the marketing, content, and executive teams, she said. Martin has relocated to Atlanta from San Francisco for the position.

Sharecare is a platform that connects people with health experts such as doctors, hospitals, healthcare companies, and other health-conscious consumers. WebMD founder Jeff Arnold and Dr. Mehmet Oz launched the site in 2010 in partnership with Harpo Studios, Sony Pictures Television, and Discovery Communications. Sharecare also owns DailyStrength and RealAge and operates DoctorOz.com.

Prior to joining Sharecare, Martin was a PR manager at Apple for two years, during which she worked on the team that handled PR for iOS, iCloud, and the iPad. She was previously senior PR director at CNN for nearly six years. While at the news organization, her purview included CNN.com, CNN Mobile, and participatory news community CNN iReport.

Martin has also held roles at GCI Group, CipherTrust, Weber Shandwick, and Edelman.

“[Sharecare] is an amalgamation of all the things I've done in my career. While still in the tech industry, it's also health and wellness, an industry that's always interested me because it's so complex and there is so much innovation,” she said.

Martin previously worked with a few of Sharecare's product development staffers, such as SVP of product Dermot Waters, while at CNN. Waters introduced her to Sharecare co-president Dawn Whaley, Martin explained.

“This was a great opportunity to work in a growing company in an exciting space affiliated with brands like Harpo, Dr. Oz, Sony, and Discovery,” she added.

Martin was a PRWeek 40 Under 40 honoree in 2011.
