NEW YORK: Former Ernst & Young PR director Charlie Perkins has joined Global Strategy Group as an MD.

Perkins started at the agency last week. Based in New York, his focus is on counseling clients on reputation and crisis management. He will also introduce the firm to many of his contacts, he said. Perkins is reporting to Global Strategy Group CEO Jon Silvan.

“The business here has been expanding rapidly,” Perkins said. “I'm delighted to be at a firm that brings the discipline and strategy of political campaigns to advising companies on highly visible, complex issues.”

Perkins most recently served as global director of communications at law firm Baker & McKenzie for one year. Prior to that, he was PR director for the Americas at Ernst & Young for nearly a decade. Perkins has also held roles as EVP and head of Weber Shandwick's corporate reputation practice in New York, chair of Edelman's global corporate reputation practice, and public affairs director at Prudential Securities.

Earlier in his career, Perkins served as campaign press secretary for former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (R) and New Jersey Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Bill Bradley, both Democrats.

“I have had internal positions for the past 10 years, but I really look forward to working with clients again on a variety of challenges and significant, complicated issues,” he added.

Earlier this year, Global Strategy Group hired Khristyn Brimmeier as VP of communications, Shira Levy as a director, and Bill Burton as EVP and MD of its Washington DC office.

The firm reported a 62% jump in revenue in 2012, year-on-year, to $24.9 million.
