OAK BROOK, IL: Ace Hardware has brought on FTI Consulting as its corporate AOR, following a competitive review.
The hardware store chain confirmed that it hired FTI as its AOR for corporate media relations, but declined to offer further information about the relationship.
Representatives from FTI deferred comment about the account to the client.
On the consumer PR side, Ace Hardware works with DBC PR+New Media. In May, the company hired Starcom MediaVest Group's Spark agency to handle media planning and buying, following a review. Ace previously worked with Horizon on that account.
The company has also worked with Weber Shandwick in the past. The Interpublic Group firm handled corporate and product PR, media outreach, special promotions, and charitable events for the chain. It hired Weber in January 2007. It was unclear when the relationship ended.
In the first quarter of 2013, Ace Hardware reported a 1.7% increase in total revenue to $923.2 million, year-over-year. However, it saw a 56% drop in net income in the period to $4.4 million, compared with Q1 2013.
Ace Hardware, which was founded in 1924, has more than 4,600 stores in all 50 states and in about 60 countries around the world.
FTI's strategic communications unit reported a 1% year-over-year revenue increase to $45.5 million in the first quarter of 2013.
