Allison+Partners opens Silicon Valley office

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: Allison+Partners has expanded its West Coast presence by opening an office in Silicon Valley to serve technology clients.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA: Allison+Partners has expanded its West Coast presence by opening an office in Silicon Valley to serve technology clients.

Monika Raj, who started work at the agency when the Silicon Valley outpost opened on August 1, is leading the operation there. She is reporting to Phil Carpenter, senior partner, who oversees the firm's West Coast business.

When Allison opened its doors 12 years ago, it was important for it not to be labeled as just a technology shop, which is why its headquarters is in San Francisco rather than Silicon Valley, explained CEO Scott Allison.

He added that as the firm grew and saw increased demand from clients in Silicon Valley, it became apparent that the agency needed a presence there. A number of Allison staffers who live in Silicon Valley no longer wanted to commute to San Francisco, so the new office will help both clients and employees, explained Allison.

The MDC Partners firm is servicing Mozilla and mobile messaging app WhatsApp out of the Silicon Valley office, located in Mountain View, CA. Other clients, such as Orbitz and Samsung, will work with both Northern California offices, said Allison, who added that the main goals of the new location are to expand the firm's tech practice and add talent.

Raj previously led an agency she founded named Influent Communications, which served clients in India and Singapore as well as the US. She also held leadership roles at IBM, Solectron, Reliance Industries, and LinkedIn.

Raj said her goals are to help “build a global agency” and serve clients on a local level around the world. She added that she wants to bring fresh thinking to technology PR and work with innovators to help them get their stories out.

At the beginning of the year, the agency expanded to China with an operation in Beijing. Allison said he expects to expand the firm's global footprint more in the near future.

“I would anticipate by the end of the year or into Q1 of [next year,] we will have another office in Europe and we should have another office or two in Asia, as well,” he said.

Allison's other locations include its headquarters in San Francisco, and offices in New York, London, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, and Dallas.

The firm's global revenue grew 28% in 2012, year-over-year, to $23.2 million.
