John Doe's Chipchase heads for Soho House

LONDON: John Doe has lost its second senior figure within months with the departure of director Peter Chipchase to head communications for international hospitality group Soho House.

LONDON: John Doe has lost its second senior figure within months with the departure of director Peter Chipchase to head communications for international hospitality group Soho House.

Chipchase, who led the agency's London outfit as a director, was poached for the newly created role of director of communications at the owner of 11 private membership clubs and hotels in the UK, North America, and Europe.

His exit comes shortly after the departure of Adam Thomas, who was hired last fall as executive director to lead John Doe's newly launched US office but is understood to have left earlier this summer.

Chipchase, who joined John Doe a year after its launch in 2010, said that “the opportunity to be part of a brand that is expanding globally is what attracted me to the role” about joining Soho House.

Launched in 2009 by Rana Reeves, John Doe brought in Thomas from his role as global head of PR at luxury mobile phone maker Vertu. It is not known whether he has left for another role.

“During the past few months, there have been a few changes at John Doe,” said Reeves. “As a business that hit the ground running early on, and now that we have a New York office with nine consultants, the two senior leavers – [Thomas] and [Chipchase] – have given us the opportunity to take stock of where we're at as a business, think about the kind of senior team we need, and point the company in the right direction for our next stage of growth.”

“As you can imagine, companies such as John Doe are ripe targets for headhunters, and we see it as a testament to the work we do that our people are offered exciting new roles, and of course we wish them well,” she added.

The agency is understood to be in discussions about bringing in a new MD to oversee the New York and London offices.

Meena Khera, who went with Thomas to lead work in the US office, remains in her New York-based role as global publicity director.
