Buggy joins Ogilvy with focus on California exchange

SACRAMENTO, CA: Suanne Buggy, a former deputy director in California's Department of Public Health, has joined Ogilvy Public Relations in its Sacramento office, where she will serve as VP.

SACRAMENTO, CA: Suanne Buggy, a former deputy director in California's Department of Public Health, has joined Ogilvy Public Relations in its Sacramento office, where she will serve as VP.

Her primary focus in the coming months will be on the state's Health Benefit Exchange, Covered California. She will report to Kevin Slagle, SVP of public affairs.

Ogilvy is helping California with media relations and community outreach for the exchange. Earlier this summer, the state raised the budget of Ogilvy's contract from $900,000 to $17 million as the firm works to boost its efforts to reach millions of uninsured Californians.

“As healthcare reform gets underway, there is a lot of work to do to make sure average folks know what this means for them,” said Buggy. “People know what insurance is, but the exchange is a new concept in California.”

Most recently, Buggy served as the senior communications officer for the California Healthcare Foundation. She has also worked as assistant secretary in the California Health and Human Services Agency and held roles in the US Departments of Commerce and Agriculture.

California also brought on Weber Shandwick to develop a creative marketing and paid media campaign running through April 2015. That contract is worth $12 million.
