NEW YORK: Spanish-language media company Univision Communications has selected Weber Shandwick as one of its lead PR agency partners.
The company, which issued an RFP this summer, confirmed that it brought on Weber following the review. Additional information on the relationship and RFP process was not disclosed.
“Univision has one of the best stories in the media business to tell right now, and we are delighted to partner with them as lead agency,” said Paul Jensen, president of Weber Shandwick's North American corporate practice, in a statement.
It is understood that FleishmanHillard, Burson-Marsteller, Goodman Media, and Weber competed in the review process.
“Goodman Media has been in the Hispanic space for 12 years, and we were thrilled to have been included in the process,” said Goodman CEO Tom Goodman, in a statement. “We have worked with several top Univision executives at their previous companies, and we only wish them the best.”
República also works with Univision, serving as the company's US Hispanic AOR since 2010, according to an agency spokesperson. The media company has also partnered with DKC.
Next Monday, Univision and ABC will launch their jointly created English-language TV network named Fusion. The network will target Millennial Hispanics with a mix of news, commentary, sports, and entertainment.
In July, Univision hired Iveliesse Malavé, a former Fleishman SVP, as VP of consumer and entertainment PR, a newly created role. It also promoted Mónica Talán to EVP of corporate communications and PR in March.
Porter Novelli hired Univision Interactive Media senior director of mobile sales and development Diana Valencia as SVP of multicultural communications early this year.
