NEW YORK: Mobile technology platform theCommsApp has launched a tool to help communications professionals share information with target audiences who are on-the-go.
TheCommsApp is built on the same platform as theIRapp, a mobile app for investor relations professionals, but it is designed for PR and communications professionals at private and nonprofit organizations as well as public companies.
With theCommsApp, communications professionals can publish branded apps for their company including content such as live webcasts, videos, and PDFs. Users can download the apps from iTunes or Google Play for free, allowing them to stay updated with company news. The platform also allows users to read documents offline.
The software is cloud-based, meaning it does not need to be integrated with a company's existing systems and does not require IT support.
Jeff Corbin, founder of theCommsApp and theIRapp and CEO of KCSA Strategic Communications, said that by creating a native app rather than a mobile-optimized website, communications professionals can push out information instead of relying on stakeholders to visit a site.
Corbin said the product takes the “stigma” out of the perception that native mobile apps are expensive to build and maintain. The service charges a set-up fee and an annual subscription of about $4,200, depending on organization size.
Clients already using theCommsApp include telecommunications company Telecom Italia Mobile Brazil. About sixty companies including Sysco Corporation, Marathon Oil, and Campbell Soup use theIRapp.
“Organizations should be embracing mobile as a strategy for communicating,” Corbin said. “They should not be looking at it incidentally but as a new means to gain direct access to target audiences.”
