SCOTTSDALE, AZ: Internet services company GoDaddy has hired former Cisco VP Karen Tillman as SVP and CCO, a newly created role.
Tillman started at GoDaddy on October 14, reporting to CMO Barb Rechterman. She will focus on building an integrated communications function and developing a corporate narrative as the company expands in the US and internationally, Tillman said.
Prior to Tillman's appointment, VP of PR Elizabeth Driscoll managed communications at GoDaddy. Driscoll remains in the role, a company spokesperson confirmed.
GoDaddy plans to hire more communications professionals to support its growth strategy, Tillman said.
Tillman was previously VP of corporate communications at Cisco, which she joined in 2010 as senior director of global PR. While at Cisco, Tillman helped with turnaround efforts after the company saw consecutive quarters of weak financial performance in 2011.
Before Cisco, Tillman served as VP of global corporate communications at Oracle, where she worked for 12 years.
GoDaddy is the world's largest Web hosting and domain registration company, managing more than 55 million domains, but over the past year it has been expanding its online services for small businesses. The company has made a number of acquisitions this year, including aftermarket domain name seller Afternic and San Francisco-based startup Locu.
Last month, GoDaddy launched an advertising campaign that positioned itself as an aide to small business owners.
“GoDaddy has a good social presence, but I want to figure out how to get customers as advocates and get more voices out beyond the CEO's,” Tillman said.
Former Yahoo chief product officer and Microsoft executive Blake Irving joined GoDaddy as CEO in January. The company also brought on David Popowitz as its first SVP of corporate development and Raj Mukherjee as VP and GM of its site builder product line.
