AUSTIN, TX: Edelman has appointed Spike Jones, former group director of engagement at WCG, as SVP and MD of its Southwest digital operation, effective immediately.
Succeeding Brad Mays, who recently took on the role of MD for Edelman Digital in Chicago, Jones will report to both Edelman Southwest president Helen Vollmer and Austin GM Jackie Hopkins.
Jones' main responsibilities will include overseeing regional strategy and business development for Edelman's Southwest region, which includes its Dallas, Houston, and Austin, TX, offices.
He said he will work to “keep the momentum going, grow the current accounts, and bring in new opportunities as we build out new offerings.”
Jones added that he will also focus on developing the firm's analytics capabilities and talent in the region.
“We have 52 of the top Fortune 500 companies here in Texas, so [my goal] is to not only continue to put our mark on the map, but to really be known for specialty services that we can provide to the Southwest region, as well as the Edelman network,” he explained.
Jones said he was attracted to Edelman because of the agency's “unparalleled” digital and social work in the industry and its entrepreneurial culture.
Prior to Jones' nearly two-year stint at WCG, he served as an SVP at FleishmanHillard in Austin for nearly two years. Before that, Jones worked for a decade at word-of-mouth marketing company Brains on Fire in South Carolina.
During his career, Jones has worked with companies such as Verizon, HP, Pfizer, Intel, and Hershey's on digital customer experience initiatives and advocacy programs.
Former Edelman SVP for social business strategy Michael Brito joined WCG as a group director earlier this month.
