Off the Street Club
For more than 20 years, GolinHarris has been an ardent supporter of The Off the Street Club, an organization that gives 4- to 18-year-old kids a safe haven in one of the most crime-ridden neighborhoods in the US — Chicago's West Garfield Park. The Club is Chicago's oldest boys and girls club and serves more than 3,000 kids 365 days a year.
In addition to expressing support for the Club and the kids in several ways throughout the year, GolinHarris is also involved in the Club's two major fundraising programs, including the annual Holiday Campaign. The agency's involvement spans a wide range of activities, from fundraising events in the office to co-chairing the Holiday Campaign and — many times over — setting a record for donations from individuals and Chicago's business community. GolinHarris also conducts an annual holiday toy drive to ensure every child at the Club gets at least one gift at Christmas. A highlight of the agency's year is inviting the kids to join employees for an afternoon of holiday songs, cookie decorating, and the unveiling of piles of toys donated by staff, friends, and families.
Additionally, on December 20 and on every third Thursday throughout the year, a number of GH employees participate in “Third Thursday” – a program where they have the chance join the kids for dinner and then help with homework, play games, or simply spend time one-on-one.
For the first time this year, GolinHarris' holiday card is tied to giving back. GolinHarris founder Al Golin and his wife June shared their favorite family recipe on GHolidayRecipes.com. The agency has invited the community to submit their favorite recipes on the microsite, which is designed to inspire sharing and to raise funds for three charities (The Philippine Red Cross Appeal for Typhoon Haiyan, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, and Feeding America). For every recipe submitted, GolinHarris will make a donation to those in need.
