With all the uncertainty caused by the current economic climate, a lot of agencies are experiencing low morale. At the same time, it's important for your management team to get to the bottom of what's going on and to develop and execute proactive solutions.
Appoint someone from the team, or even a disinterested outsider, to lead the effort so the problem has an “owner.” Conduct exit interviews in order to better understand the reasons for departures and encourage remaining staff to be more candid about ways that yours can be a better workplace.
You may think your pay and benefits are competitive, but you must be sure. Do not just rely on salary surveys. Ask around, review job postings from other firms, or contact an outside recruiter for guidance.
Consider whether you might have a manager who is driving out staff. Also, focus efforts on areas where change might be possible. For instance, a telecommuting policy might ease an office-space crunch while also taking the edge off long hours.
