NEW YORK: CRT/Tanaka has acquired New York-based Lewis & Neale, an agency focused solely on food and nutrition. Lewis & Neale will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of CRT/Tanaka.
Mark Raper, chairman and CEO of CRT/Tanaka, said a complete merger of the firms is probable eventually but for now it wants to maintain the brand equity of Lewis & Neale and its food and nutrition staff, which are "quite well-known." Lewis & Neale's president Anita Fial will remain in her post.
The addition of the agency would bring CRT/Tanaka's total combined fees up to more than $12 million, the firm said.
Some of Lewis & Neale's clients have included the US Apple Association and the Avocado Producers and Exporters from Mexico. The firm maintains an in-house test kitchen and food photography studio.
According to Fial, Lewis & Neale first approached CRT/Tanaka about a possible merger.
“Our business was good, but rather than expand our capabilities, to make us more competitive with some of the larger agencies, we found a [a company to merge with],” Fial said. CRT/Tanka offered a good cultural fit, she added.
Both agencies said the merger will not result in layoffs.
