Nursing home hires FWV following shooting

RALEIGH, NC: The nursing home where a gunman opened fire yesterday, killing eight people, has enlisted French/West/Vaughan to handle communications during its crisis.

FWV CEO and chairman Rick French said the Raleigh-based agency was hired yesterday following the incident at Pinelake Health and Rehab Center in Carthage, NC. Several of the firm's staff are working on the case, including himself. VP Chris Shigas has been “stationed at the facility nonstop for 36 hours,” French added.

It is helping the nursing home handle media inquires and issue its statements, French said. In particular, it is explaining the facility's security and standard of care. “I think the media has been pretty understanding,” he said, noting the requests have come from across the globe, not just the country.

“I couldn't even begin to tell the number of inquires,” he added.

The PR firm's assistance will continue “as long as they need us,” French added. It was referred to the nursing home by an attorney familiar with its reputation management work, he said.

Police are still investigating the incident, although reports now suggest that the alleged gunmen's wife worked at the facility.
