SEATTLE: Microsoft is reviewing PR agencies for its global mobile communications business.
Incumbent Weber Shandwick is pitching for the business, along with Edelman and Waggener Edstrom, said Tom Pilla, GM of the company's corporate communications.
All three handle a variety of tasks for Microsoft. For example, WE leads corporate communications, Edelman works on Xbox, and WS works on its TV and video-focused business, among other projects.
The company plans to make a decision this fiscal year, which ends June 30, Pilla said. PRWeek UK first broke the news of the review.
Pilla said the scope of the work includes its Windows Mobile business, the Windows phones, and the Windows software that runs on these devices. He declined to state the budget.
“We are always looking to ensure we have the most effective, efficient agency partners,” he said. “We review agencies from time to time.”
WE confirmed its participation in the pitch, but didn't elaborate. Neither WS nor Edelman responded for comment by press time.
Earlier this year, Microsoft assessed the digital and social marketing capabilities of its PR firms, though a decision has yet to be announced.
