Bates was MD at Media Distribution Services for a decade before joining the George Washington University faculty in 2007, where he now teaches PR writing and media relations, as well as teaching and consulting for the Latin American program. In February 2009, Bates and Cision published a study called How the Press Uses and Values
Public Relations and Other Media Resources.
