IDashboards, the provider of business intelligence dashboards, scorecards, and business alerts, sought to bring its brand into greater prominence with consumers and media by creating a dashboard to track the global distribution of medals during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
“We wanted to show the power of the organization to the common masses, [as well as] the effectiveness of iDashboards to business and business intelligence media,” says Shadan Malik, CEO of iDashboards.
The company, with the assistance of AOR Lewis PR, launched this program to drive “brand awareness... but also to show the innovations and possibilities of data realizations,” Malik says.
PR launched in late June, with a release to media, “showing the power of this technology through a visual presentation,” says Rich Young, account director at Lewis PR. Also, the program referred back to an earlier program for the Athens Games.
Leveraging iDashboards' business intelligence, Lewis PR reached out to a variety of media outlets, including trade, business, and sports press, to explain how they could track Olympic medals with the program, sans spreadsheets.
“We did want to use a... social media and blog approach because there were so many blogs that started up that were covering the Olympic Games,” Young says. Also, the firm approached analysts and freelancers on Twitter.
The program received more than 8,000 unique visitors, exceeding the goal of 5,000. “It helped us in getting international coverage [and brand awareness in markets, like Australia and the Middle East]” Malik says.
The company just conducted a survey capturing businesses' and employees' “mindset with the economy,” Young says. Those results will be graphically represented through iDashboards at the end of April.
