Edelman out on Wal-Mart consumer pitch

BENTONVILLE, AR: Edelman has lost its consumer communications account with Wal-Mart after the superstore opened a review for the business earlier this year, according to the agency.

BENTONVILLE, AR: Edelman has lost its consumer communications account with Wal-Mart after the superstore opened a review for the business earlier this year, according to the agency.

The agency has traditionally handled a wide range of projects for the retailer, and the firm's chief of staff, Derek Creevey said it maintains its other Wal-Mart work, including PA.

“We participated in the RFP process,” Creevey said. “We were not selected for that, but are very proud to continue [our relationships] in corporate communications, public affairs, and issues management.”

When asked about its agency selections, though, Wal-Mart said it was still deciding on which firms would handle the business. The Wall Street Journal had said five agencies were expected to share the account.

“At this time, we have no announcements,” said Linda Blakely, senior director of PR and brand reputation at Wal-Mart.

Several industry sources, though, have said that Wal-Mart is nearing the end of its review and that several firms were already chosen.
