WASHINGTON: Burson-Marsteller hired Dana Perino, White House press secretary from 2007 to 2009, as its chief issues counselor, effective April 20.
She will report to Josh Gottheimer, global EVP and chair of the corporate and public affairs practices at Burson. Based in Washington, Perino will build the firm's media and issues capabilities and provide senior counsel to clients.
“The bipartisan nature of the firm, while attractive, was secondary to the fact that I felt this is where the top talent goes,” Perino told PRWeek. “They were willing to go after talent.”
In recent years, Burson has hired a number of former presidential advisors, including CEO Mark Penn, former strategist to Hillary Clinton, and Karen Hughes, worldwide vice chair, counselor to President Bush from 2001 to 2002.
