The New York Times hired Jennifer Preston as its first social media editor this week, marking the second time this month that a major newspaper has increased oversight of its employees’ social networking activities.
Preston was hired to create “some consistency about what we consider good uses of social media and bad uses of it,” Jonathan Landman, Times deputy managing editor, told The New York Observer.
Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal sent staffers a memo about professional conduct guidelines on the Web.
