SANTA CLARA, CA: Yahoo has hired Eric Brown, VP of corporate relations at NetApp, as SVP of global communications and May Petry as VP of corporate communications.
Brown's hire was first reported on June 2 by All Things D, which obtained an internal memo announcing his addition. On June 3, Yahoo confirmed the hire and described Brown's role as “overseeing functions that include public relations, executive communications, product promotion, public affairs, internal communications, corporate reputation management, as well as social media outreach.”
Brown, slated to start with the company in July, will report to Yahoo's new CMO Elisa Steele, according to Yahoo's release.
"[Brown's] extensive track record as a communications leader will be invaluable to our efforts to globally reinvigorate Yahoo!'s brand," Steele said in the statement.
Steele recently worked with Brown as SVP of global communications for NetApp, a position she left in March to join Yahoo. Brown is expected to take over the position left vacant after interim PR head Brad Williams' departure in April. Williams was the interim replacement for PR head Jill Nash who left in February.
Brown was part of PRWeek's Technology Roundtable in San Francisco this spring. Last year he worked on NetApp's rebranding campaign.
“This is such a pivotal time to join Yahoo, and I look forward to being a part of the team that helps the company reassert its brand relevance globally," Brown said in the statement.
Petry's appointment is effective June 1. Formerly VP of communications for Yahoo's mobile efforts, she will report to Brown. In her new role, Petry will oversee Yahoo's corporate messaging, including financial communications and analyst relations. She assumes the role formerly held by Brad Williams.
