Barber reportedly said: “I confidently predict that within the next 12 months, almost all news organizations will be charging for content.”
Barber’s Web site charges for some online content. Wall Street Journal managing editor Robert Thomson has saidthat his newspaper, which already charges online, plans to roll out a micropayments plan this year. The New York Times asked consumers in a survey earlier this month if they would pay for online content.
PRWeek also began gating its Web content two months ago.
