Yahoo plans to reveal a new homepage later today, July 21, which will allow users to integrate non-Yahoo branded e-mail accounts, along with their social network sites, like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, so they never have to leave Yahoo.com to update these pages. Users will be able to choose from more than 60 apps to further personalize the page. And they can select the type of news they receive through the site, "ranging from fun to serious," according to Bloomberg:
“This is probably the most fundamental revisiting of the Yahoo home page since the beginning of Yahoo,” Tapan Bhat, senior vice president of integrated consumer experiences at the company, said in an interview. “What Yahoo is is a place where millions of people come, and we want to make sure this becomes the center of their lives online.”
Says The New York Times' Bits blog: Yahoo's "thoroughly overhauled home page, a major step in the struggling company’s efforts to remake itself for users, advertisers and investors."
For now, it will be an "opt-in" beta site where visitors to Yahoo.com can choose whether or not to partake in the new site.
