The US Marine Corps banned access social networking sites for a year because of concerns about security risks, despite the Department of Defense's robust social media strategy which includes blogs, Twitter, and other social networking tools.

Specifically, the new policy bans use of social media on government computer but it will not affect personal use. The Pentagon, as a whole, is reviewingsocial media practices as it aims to set broader policies by September 30 for sites like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.
