SelectResources' Orsborn leaves to start own firm

SANTA MONICA, CA: Dan Orsborn, senior partner and the PR practice leader at search and client/agency management firm SelectResources International (SRI), has left the company to start his own firm, Orsborn Partners.

SANTA MONICA, CA: Dan Orsborn, senior partner and the PR practice leader at search and client/agency management firm SelectResources International (SRI), has left the company to start his own firm, Orsborn Partners. Orsborn, who had worked with SRI for seven years, managed a number of high-profile reviews for clients, including the recent Wal-Mart PR search, and others like Nike, Old Navy, and Intel. His new firm will be based in Los Angeles and offer marketing, management, and sales training consultation, but not search or procurement services.

Orsborn said his decision to leave was not related to downsizing, and praised SRI's management, but said ultimately there were "other things I want to do." He did note that there are "not as many PR searches" going on at the moment and that there was a "lull" between opportunities.

Catherine Bension, president and CEO of California-based SRI, agreed that there has been a slowdown in PR reviews, but said the company which works with a number of clients in the advertising space, is doing great overall. She will handle the PR practice for now, as she did before Orsborn joined the company, though it could "potentially" refill the position with someone new, she added.

Prior to joining SRI, Orsborn worked on the PR agency side, including with Edelman and Porter Novelli. Orsborn's wife, Carol, is also a partner in the new firm, which is helping to promote her new book, The Year I Saved My (Downsized) Soul: A Boomer Woman's Search for Meaning...and a Job.
