Due to concern from federal regulators and complaints from colleges nationwide, Anheuser-Busch has pulled its "fan cans" promotion from some communities. The promotion, which offered cans of Bud Light in 27 school color combinations, was launched to coincide with the start of football season, according to the Washington Times.

The Federal Trade Commission, which admitted to speaking with Anheuser-Busch on the issue but wouldn't say whether an investigation is underway, said it was troubled by the possibility that beer could be marketed to those under 21 and could contribute to issues like binge drinking on campus. The industry's regulations require that at least 70% of an ad's audience be comprised of people over 21 years old.

At least 25 schools have formally requested that the company discontinue the promotion, with lawyers from the University of Michigan threatening legal action for trademark infringement, according to the The Wall Street Journal.
